What do we do?

The term ‘Jūjutsu’ means ‘gentle art’.

This is because the techniques require very little of your own strength and use your opponent’s strength against them.

Rolling and Falling – Ukemi Waza

This part of our training allows us to practice Jitsu safely and to control our own balance and body to maximize your movement. Also just looks cool.

Throwing – Nage Waza

In a martial and self-defense situation, taking your opponent down to the grown with some force can be a very effective way to end the fight. We start with simple yet efficient throws and progress to more complex and powerful throws as we progress through our training. This is the main component in which Judo focuses on.

Joint Locking – Kantsetsu Waza

Joint locking is the most effective way to control an opponent. It’s based on a simple principle: isolate the joint and then apply pressure past it’s range of movement. You will learn how to use these applied to a wide range of self-defense situations.

Ground grappling – Ne Waza

This part of ever on the ground, effectively controlling and restricting your opponent might be your only way out. We learn a variety of holdowns, locks on the grounds, escapes and chokes to be able to fight with skill when taken down. This aspect is shared with BJJ, with it’s main focus being ground grappling, and to a slightly lesser extent with Judo.

Defenses against armed and skilled opponents

While we don’t specifically focus on any one weapon, we train to effectively disarm and neutralize armed and skilled attackers through a series of scenario trainings and drills. The first weapons we face are more common objects, such as bottles. As training progresses, we move on to deal with weapons like knives or metal chains.

Striking – Atemi Waza

No single technique is fail-proof. For that reason we teach a wide variety of techniques including strikes. All tools in your self-defense arsenal. While we don’t exclusively focus on striking, like Taekwondo or Karate, we practice many different strikes and kicks. We also learn how and when to deliver them to be most effective and compliment other techniques within our arsenal.
